What We Believe

SIN AND GRACE
Grace is God’s boundless, irresistible love for all creation. He gives it freely. We cannot earn it. Our good works express God’s grace in our lives.

We affirm that "original sin" (brokenness, alienation) is a part of our lives that we can never escape. However, God does not abandon us and constantly reaches out to call us, help us, inspire us, save us, and love us through His grace.

THE WORLD
We affirm God created the world and that we are called by God to be responsible stewards of the world and its resources.

THE BIBLE
We affirm the Bible is the Word of God for our lives, our Church, and our world. The Holy Spirit inspired writers of old, working with them through their own culture and world view to speak God's Word. The Holy Spirit continues to inspire us as we listen for God's Word in our lives.

GOD
We affirm the Trinity—that God has come to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

THE CHURCH
We affirm the church is the Body of Christ. The church is where we gather together for encouragement and fellowship, for learning and support, and for guidance and fun

SACRAMENTS
We hold two Sacraments—baptism and communion.

  • Baptism signifies the washing away of sin, being sealed by God’s spirit, adoption in the covenant family of the church, and resurrection and illumination in Christ. Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) recognizes all baptisms with water in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit by other Christian churches.
  • The Lord’s Supper is the sign and seal of eating and drinking in communion with the crucified and risen Lord. The invitation is extended to all who have been baptized.

THEOLOGY
Presbyterians adhere to Reformed theology, from the 16th-century Protestant Reformation, that emphasizes God's supremacy and humanity's chief purpose as being to glorify and enjoy God forever.
