From Thirza Sayers, CTS Intern, for 2008-2009:
I am a senior at Columbia Theological Seminary. I held several positions in business management before accepting God’s call to ministry. I worked in student ministries for nearly three years until beginning my studies at CTS in 2006. I absolutely love Hebrew, Pastoral Care, and Missions.
I am the 13th daughter in my family to receive the name since my great, great, great grandparents, who were missionaries in India, found it in Numbers 26:33. It means “my delight”.
I grew up on our family’s bison ranch just outside of St. Louis, Missouri. My dad started the bison on the family farm as a joke in 1976 to celebrate our country’s 200th anniversary (or the bi-centennial, "bison"tennial). He bought three bison from a used car salesmen and now they have five hundred.
After graduation from Davidson College in 1999, I moved to Atlanta and have lived here ever since. I discovered my faith in God when I began attending Peachtree Presbyterian in 2000.
Outside of my relationship with God and my studies, three activities make me most happy: my work with my dog, missions, and teenagers.
My dog, Mr. T Rex, a toy poodle, has passed pet therapy certification. We serve at area hospitals including Emory and Peachford.
I connect most with God in mission: I love seeing what God is up to and how I can participate in it.
Finally, teenagers get me excited about life and serving – they are at such a transformational time of life and often are struggling so much. I love being there to celebrate with them and often to cry with them.
I look forward to being part of the life and ministries here in the CPC family!
